In a groundbreaking suggestion, a cybersecurity specialist and renowned software developer, Mr. Chidiebere Ihediwa has urged the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to consider reorienting educated online fraudsters, commonly known as "Yahoo Boys," into information technology specialists. Ihediwa made this recommendation during an award ceremony held in his honor at the Police Officers Mess, GRA Ikeja, Lagos.
Expressing his viewpoint, Ihediwa emphasized the importance of categorizing knowledge into positive and negative aspects. He proposed redirecting the skills of arrested cyber fraudsters towards constructive endeavors rather than allowing them to languish in detention or face destructive consequences.
During the ceremony, Mr. Chris Oji, representing the award host (Cornerstone.ng), acknowledged Ihediwa's significant contributions to software development and information technology in Nigeria, highlighting his deserving recognition.
In a related development, Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki, disclosed plans to train repentant internet fraudsters, commonly referred to as 'Yahoo Boys,' in advanced Information and Communication Technology (ICT) and other vocational skills. This initiative is set to take place within the proposed technology park in the state, reflecting a proactive approach to channeling the skills of individuals involved in cyber fraud towards positive contributions to society.
As the debate on the rehabilitation of arrested cyber fraudsters gains momentum, Ihediwa's proposal introduces a novel perspective on leveraging their knowledge for societal development.
