Kebbi State Comptroller of Customs, Mr Ernest Iheanacho, said that the joint border patrol team intercepted 6,250 sacks of dynamite explosives, and had taken the two suspects into custody.
"The explosives were placed in a canter car with the license plate Zur 882 ZY. The car was quickly stopped, and Abdullahi Aliyu, the driver, was taken into custody. Aliyu was supposed to deliver the explosives to Alhaji Mustapha Garba Jega, the recipient," he said.
He clarified that once the goods were found, the joint patrol team's intelligence units locked them over and determined that they were explosives; in a similar vein, the Haojue motorcycle was also taken into custody in relation to the things.
Iheanacho added that the command turned the explosives over to the Department of Security Services (DSS), who are the legitimate caretakers of the material, because of its dangerous nature.
Mr. Tony Oduwalu, a deputy director of DSS at Kebbi Command, received the explosives.
Earlier, the two bodies signed the handover documents before the physical handing over. “I hand over these explosives to you on behalf of the Comptroller General of Nigeria Customs, who instructed me to do so,” he said.
