The New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) has successfully completed its National Convention, endorsing important resolutions, such as the expulsion of Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, Buba Galadima, and the entire Kwankwassiya faction, along with the election of Dr. Agbo Major as the National Chairman.
Speaking to reporters on Saturday at the NNPP National Headquarters in Abuja, Dr. Agbo Major reiterated the party’s adherence to the Abia High Court ruling from November 1, 2024, which instructed the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to acknowledge the party’s Board of Trustees (BOT) headed by Dr. Boniface Okechukwu Aniebonam until all internal conflicts are resolved.
“After this ruling, congresses were conducted throughout the party at ward, local government, state, and zonal levels, leading to the National Convention on February 4, 2025, in Lagos,” Dr. Major mentioned.
Ratification of Party Congresses: All congresses conducted from ward to zonal levels received ratification.
Expulsion of Kwankwaso & Kwankwassiya Faction: The party has formally cut ties with the Kwankwassiya movement, citing the expiration of the 2022 Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) that initially brought them into the NNPP.
Election of New Leadership: Dr. Agbo Major was elected as National Chairman, together with a new National Working Committee (NWC).
Rejection of the Alleged New Party Logo: The convention endorsed a return to the original NNPP logo, depicting a basket of fruits on the Nigerian map.
Financial Evaluation: A review of the party's finances was conducted to fortify internal structures.
Dr. Major criticized supporters of Senator Kwankwaso, accusing them of undermining the party despite their official expulsion. “We will not be diverted by unemployed individuals pretending to be NNPP members, spreading misinformation in the media. The courts have made their decision, and they must peacefully leave our party instead of instigating disorder,” he asserted.
He further invalidated claims made by Dr. Ahmed Ajuji, a loyalist of the Kwankwassiya faction, noting that court rulings have already confirmed their expulsion from the party.
Dr. Major expressed optimism that INEC would soon update its records to reflect the recent leadership changes, in accordance with the Abia High Court directive. “We call on INEC to uphold the rule of law and officially recognize our leadership. NNPP is focused on strategizing for 2027 and ensuring the party's continued progress,” he stated.
He also urged the media to ignore distractions from expelled members, emphasizing that NNPP remains united and dedicated to its vision for Nigeria.
