A Delta State High Court sitting in Asab, has sentenced a police Inspector, Ubi Ebri, to death for murder.
The police inspector was accused of killing one Mr Ibeh Onyeka, a telephone repairer and seller while on a stop-and-search duty along Ugbolu-Asaba Road in the state capital.
The prosecution led by E.H Edema, a Director in the Ministry of Justice, claimed that the defendant was part of the police patrol team that mounted the stop-and-search operation.
The deceased and his wife were said to be driving from Ugbolu to Asaba when they were flagged down by the police team for search.
The defendant was said to have opened fire on the vehicle leaving the deceased dead after he was hit on the head by bullets.
The wife of the deceased who sat in the front seat with him was however, unhurt.
The court, presided over by Justice C. D Diai, convicted and sentenced the defendant to death.
