A Magistrate Court in Ilesa, Osun State, has ordered Rhoda Adu to pay N150,000 in damages for not visiting her boyfriend, Olapitan Sola, after he sent her N3,000 for transportation.
Rhoda turned off her phone and did not show up after Mr. Olapitan transferred her transport fare. Unable to reach Adu after sending the money, Olapitan felt cheated and emotionally distressed, prompting him to report the matter to the Ayeso Police Station.
Rhoda was subsequently arrested and brought before the court, where evidence was presented, including the N3,000 transfer and WhatsApp messages exchanged between Olapitan and Adu.
Magistrate Akogun Oludare ruled that Ms. Adu must return the N3,000 transport fare, pay N100,000 for violating their agreement, and an additional N50,000 as special damages for the emotional distress caused to Olapitan.
The court also emphasized that its ruling aims to deter others from engaging in similar misconduct.
