ABUJA, Nigeria (NAN) - The Federal High Court in Abuja on Thursday, authorized the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to apprehend and hold six individuals associated with Crypto Bridge Exchange (CBEX) in connection with alleged investment fraud exceeding one billion dollars.
Justice Emeka Nwite granted this order following an ex parte motion presented by EFCC's attorney, Fadila Yusuf, stating that the detention would continue until the investigation of the alleged crimes and potential prosecution are finalized.
“I have considered the submission from the applicant's counsel (EFCC). I have also reviewed the affidavit and accompanying exhibits as well as the written submissions.
I find the application to be valid. Therefore, I grant the application as requested,” the judge remarked.
The six individuals implicated include Adefowora Abiodun Olanipekun, Adefowora Oluwanisola, Emmanuel Uko, and Seyi Oloyede, along with Avwerosuo Otorudo and Chukwuebuka Ehirim, listed as the 1st to 6th defendants, respectively. The ex parte motion, dated and filed on April 23 by Yusuf, contained two requests from the anti-graft agency.
