Suspended Central Bank of Nigeria Governor, Godwin Emefiele has been granted bail.
On Tuesday, the Federal High Court in Lagos State granted bail to Godwin Emefiele to the tune of N20 million with one surety in a similar amount.
The grant of bail came after Emefiele pleaded not guilty to the two charges brought against him, which involve the alleged illegal possession of firearms and ammunition.
Emefiele is currently facing two counts related to the illegal possession of firearms and ammunition, and the charges were filed against him by the Federal Ministry of Justice. The case is being presided over by Justice Nicholas Oweibo, the vacation judge.
The charges brought against him by the ministry include possessing a single-barrelled shotgun (identified as JOJEFF MAGNUM 8371) without the necessary license. Additionally, he is accused of illegally having 23 rounds of live ammunition (cartridges) without a valid license.
The alleged offences were committed on June 15, 2023, at No. 3b Iru Close, Ikoyi area of Lagos. As the legal proceedings continue, Emefiele will have to defend himself against these charges in court.
