In a recent development, the Federal Government has issued a new directive for the prompt recommencement of construction activities on the Eleme section of the East-West Road in Rivers State.
The Minister of Works, Sen. David Umahi gave the directive to the construction company handling the project, Mrss Reynolds Construction Company RCC, Nigeria Limited.
Umahi gave this directive after he had issued a decision to halt construction activities on the project site during an unscheduled inspection visit on January 27, 2024.
He urged the construction company to resume work on the 15 km stretch from Eleme to Onne Junction. It is noteworthy that the minister had previously halted construction due to identified infractions on the project's specifications.
The directive, as outlined in a statement from the Special Adviser on Media to the Minister of Works, Uchenna Orji, follows resolutions reached during a meeting with the Permanent Secretary and key directors of the Ministry, along with the management of RCC Ltd.
In the statement, the minister reiterated the importance of adhering to contractual obligations. He further directed the contractors handling the project to resume work on the four sections of the project and in strict compliance with the contract specifications.
The management of the construction company was subsequently summoned to the ministry to address and resolve technical issues.
As construction resumes, the Ministry of Works emphasizes the need for strict adherence to project specifications, underscoring the government's commitment to ensuring the timely and quality completion of the East-West Road project in Rivers State.
Recall that the federal government awarded the construction project to the RCC in September, 2023 and work commenced in December, 2023.
