The US Open tournament has not been kind to top tennis stars, as Coco Gauff has joined several other prominent players who have been eliminated from the tournament.
Gauff lost to Emma Navarro in a 6-3, 4-6, 6-3 fourth-round defeat, recording 19 double faults and 60 unforced errors.
Gauff had earlier lost to Navarro in an almost similar number in the Wimbledon, which was held in July.
“I gave it my all,” said Gauff. “Obviously, there were things execution-wise, where I was like, I wish I could serve better. I think if I did that, it would have been a different story.”
Navarro, however, has some praises for the 2023 US Open winner.
He stated, “This is the city I was born in, and it feels so special to be playing here. Coco is an amazing player. I have a ton of respect for her, and I know she’s going to come back here and win this thing again.”
This win will prop Navarro to the world number 10 position as she continues to progress in her career.
She reached the semi-finals of the WTA Tour last year and had beaten Aryna Sabalenka in the fourth round of the French Open.
Gauff’s loss means that she follows the likes of Novak Djokovic, Carlos Alcaraz, Naomi Osaka, and Emma Raducanu as top players who have suffered early exits in the US Open this year.
