In a strategic effort to solidify its plans ahead of the expected 2027 general elections, the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and its coalition allies convened a high-level political meeting in Umuahia, Abia State, on Friday, June 6.
The ADC Chairman in Abia State, Don Norman Obinna, declared that the coalition has officially chosen ADC as its political platform, positioning the party as a hub for a national political revival.
This move was characterized as a decisive reaction to “Years of failed leadership, economic decline, and increasing public disenfranchisement” under the All Progressives Congress (APC)-led federal government.
He underscored the coalition’s mission to restore hope for Nigerians, eliminate hunger, and steer the nation toward inclusive prosperity, all founded on a renewed political vision grounded in integrity, equity, and accountability.
“This transcends political realignment; it is a rescue mission,” stated Don Norman.
“The unemployment crisis is severe, the naira is plummeting, and the wages of civil servants are a national embarrassment. We are adopting ADC to rectify these injustices.”
During the keynote address, Professor Uzoma Emmanuel Afamefuna, a distinguished political scholar and governance reform advocate, highlighted the vital importance of civic engagement and stakeholder involvement in rejuvenating Nigeria’s democracy.
He advocated for rotational leadership, fair representation, and issue-based campaigns instead of propaganda.
“The South East is still marginalized. We must advocate for representation and reject tokenism. Our votes should not be exchanged for rice, wrappers, or hollow promises,” Afamefuna asserted.
“A new Nigeria can only be achieved through citizen-led accountability.” Rev. Blessed Amalambu, ADC’s 2023 House of Assembly candidate in Abia, cautioned coalition leaders to meticulously vet aspirants and protect the movement from corrupt political influences.
“Failing to safeguard our platform from political contamination could lead us to repeat the mistakes of the past,” he warned.
