The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited has revealed on Thursday that using Compressed Natural Gas in vehicles is 40% more cost-effective than using Premium Motor Spirit, commonly known as petrol.
The company also announced the launch of 11 CNG stations in Abuja and Lagos, with plans to have 100 operational nationwide within the next year.
The Managing Director of NNPC Retail Limited,Huub Stokman, emphasized the significance of this expansion, stating that CNG offers an affordable alternative to traditional fuel products and could potentially become a significant part of Nigeria's energy mix with continued investment.
Additionally, NNPC is supporting the establishment of mechanical training and conversion centers in Abuja and Lagos, utilizing Nigeria's abundant natural gas reserves to provide affordable energy to its people.
Mele Kyari, the Group Chief Executive Officer of NNPC, highlighted the ongoing efforts to develop infrastructure that will bring CNG closer to end users.
