UEFA has given Manchester United until Monday to resolve a potential conflict of interest that could affect their participation in the Europa League next season, according to the UK Telegraph.
Recall that RocketParrot reported that this issue arose over United’s co-owner, Sir Jim Ratcliffe, who also owns Nice, which has qualified for the same competition.
Despite finishing eighth in the Premier League, Manchester United secured their Europa League spot by winning the FA Cup final against Manchester City.
Ratcliffe’s ownership extends to two other teams—French side Nice and Swiss club Lausanne—placing him in violation of UEFA's regulations.
European football’s governing body stipulates that the same owner or entity cannot have "decisive influence" over multiple clubs in the same competition.
Nice finished fifth in Ligue 1 this season. Given their higher league finish compared to Manchester United, it is the Red Devils who could be relegated to the Europa Conference League unless a resolution is reached by the deadline.
