Whitney Adeniran, a student at Chrisland International High School in Lagos, passed away. The school’s administration has apologized.
On February 9, 2023, Whitney Adeniran passed away at Agege Stadium while competing in a school inter-house sporting event.
The 12-year-old had no known medical issues when the school bus picked her up for the event, according to the deceased’s father, Dr. Michael Adeyemi Adeniran.
The Lagos State Government stated that the pupil’s post-mortem report from the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital confirmed asphyxia and electrocution as the pupil’s causes of death on Thursday in a statement by the Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Moyosore Onigbanjo SAN.
We’re sorry, the school wrote on Sunday in a now-deleted social media post. About Whitney’s passing, we are incredibly sorry and grieved. We regret our actions and apologize to Whitney’s parents. We apologize to the neighborhood where our school is located and to Nigerians in general. It was a severe setback for Chrisland.
“We equally express apology to another critical stakeholder, Nigeria Media, for unbearably quiet signals. We have been quiet because Whitney’s death was so shocking, we opted more for introspection and moral rectitude than strutting around the media space to seize narratives. We considered it imperative to allow the entire Adeniran family the honor of their privacy.”
“We are still fighting the Adenirans.
To help them get through this difficult time, we will always be there.
We would like to express our profound gratitude to everyone who has sincerely supported the family and us through this difficult time.
Nevertheless, once Whitney’s mother Blessing Adeniran pointed out that the institution had never truly loved her daughter because the inter-house sporting event was still going on the day of her passing, the school removed the photo from its Instagram page.
Reacting to the deleted post, She wrote: “@Chrislandinsta why did you delete the post? Are you not sorry again? But you will still get what is coming for you.”
