Eleven people including a nursing mother at Ndibokote village, Ezza Inyimagu, in the Izzi Local Government Area of Ebonyi State have been confirmed dead following a cholera outbreak that hit the community.
Reacting to the incident, the Commissioner for Health, Dr Moses Ekuma, during a rapid response at Iziogo Health Centre confirmed the incident.
He noted that about 10 deaths had been recorded while about 20 affected persons were responding to treatment.
The commissioner noted that three treatment centres, including Iziogo Health Centre, Sudan Mission, Onuenyim and Ndibokote villages, had been established to treat cholera cases.
He lauded development partners such as the World Health Organisation and the United Nations Children’s Fund for their support.
