The CEO of NTA-StarTimes TV, Joshua Wong, has reaffirmed China’s commitment to bolstering its relationship with Nigeria through cultural exchanges, educational programmes, and community-oriented projects.
Speaking during the screening of a Chinese film dubbed in Hausa at Dafa Community in Kwali Area Council, Abuja, Wong highlighted the growing cultural understanding between the two nations. He noted that over 40 Nigerians are currently studying in China to deepen their knowledge of Chinese traditions and language.
Wong also pointed out China’s contributions to Nigerian communities, stating that the country has initiated over 1,000 projects since 2019 aimed at improving lives. Through StarTimes, they have been providing entertainment to underserved areas, bridging the gap caused by inadequate electricity and limited access to media.
“This community now lacks entertainment due to poor electricity and scarce access to films, movies, and TV content. This is why StarTimes has been the leading digital TV operator in Nigeria for so many years,” Wong said. “China and Nigeria are good partners and brothers. We hope this event will bring joy to Dafa residents and enhance their understanding of Chinese culture.”
Wong also expressed optimism about collaboration between Chinese and Nigerian filmmakers to create productions that celebrate the shared cultural values of both nations.
The head of the Dafa community, Abdullahi Kajiya, praised the company for its impactful initiatives, such as installing solar-powered lights. However, he urged the federal government to address the electricity challenges in the area, enabling residents to enjoy the benefits of the StarTimes network fully.
