Ambassador Abayomi Nurain Mumuni, a notable figure in the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), has underscored the importance of President Bola Tinubu's concentration on the critical task of governing the nation and instilling hope in the Nigerian people. Mumuni expressed concerns that political maneuvers and distractions should not divert the President's attention at this pivotal moment in the country's trajectory.
The remarks from Mumuni come in response to recent reports indicating the formation of a political group called the Forum of 2023 APC Presidential Aspirants, aimed at rallying support for President Tinubu's potential re-election bid in 2027. The group, inaugurated on December 18 in Abuja, reportedly includes former Zamfara state governor Ahmed Sani Yerima as its convener.
In a statement released by Mumuni's media aide, Rasheed Abubakar, on Tuesday, December 19, the chieftain urged former presidential aspirants to align their efforts with President Tinubu's commitment to national security and economic revitalization for the benefit of all Nigerians.
Mumuni emphasized, "President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has since moved on from the 2023 election. From all indications, he is now busy with governance and his promise to bring renewed hope to the masses. We know how demanding all these can be; so the President should not be distracted with political shenanigans at this very defining period of our nationhood."
He cautioned against premature involvement in the 2027 political landscape, characterizing it as a smokescreen for personal gains. Mumuni urged former presidential aspirants to focus on contributing to the development of their states and impacting the lives of the people, aligning with the current administration's goals.
Mumuni, also a renowned author and security expert, dismissed the notion of former aspirants playing advisory roles, stating, "It is laughable that people who need advice are seeking to play advisory roles to the President. All these are a political charade. It is not what our beloved country needs now."
He further warned against potential trends of various groups seeking advisory roles, emphasizing the need for statesmanship and a focus on addressing the existing gaps across sectors in the country without unnecessary noise.
