Chelsea returned to the Premier League's top four after Marc Cucurella's second-half goal secured a hard-fought victory against Leicester City at Stamford Bridge.
This marked the left-back's fifth goal of the season and his second consecutive league goal following his strike against Southampton.
Cucurella's vital goal arrived on the hour mark as he struck a left-footed shot from 25 yards, outsmarting Leicester's goalkeeper Mads Hermansen.
Before this, Chelsea had faced frustration, particularly when Hermansen saved Cole Palmer's penalty midway through the first half, which was awarded after Victor Kristiansen tripped Jadon Sancho.
This missed penalty ended Palmer's perfect record from the spot, having previously converted 12 consecutive penalties, and extended his goal drought to nine matches across all competitions.
Leicester had a strong showing in the first half and nearly scored in an unusual moment when Chelsea defender Tosin Adarabioyo accidentally headed the ball onto his own crossbar.
However, this was the closest Leicester got, as Enzo Maresca’s side improved after halftime, ultimately securing the win that allowed them to leapfrog Manchester City, gaining a two-point lead over the defending champions.
The loss left Leicester struggling at the second-to-last position in the standings, sitting behind 18th-placed Ipswich on goal difference and six points behind Wolves in 17th.
