Chelsea has decided to end their pursuit of Kieran McKenna for the head coach position.
McKenna, who has garnered recognition for leading Ipswich Town back to the Premier League with consecutive promotions, was considered a strong candidate following Mauricio Pochettino’s departure last week.
Despite initial discussions and a considerable amount of admiration for McKenna, Chelsea has chosen to shift their focus to other candidates.
According to The Athletic, the club’s shortlist now includes Leicester City’s Enzo Maresca and Brentford’s Thomas Frank, with Roberto De Zerbi also being linked to the position.
McKenna, who previously served as an assistant coach at Manchester United, is currently attracting interest from Brighton and his former club, United.
While Ipswich Town hopes to secure McKenna with a new contract, he appears ready for a new challenge.
Meanwhile, Erik ten Hag, who recently led Manchester United to an FA Cup victory, is reportedly at risk of losing his job despite the recent triumph.
