The governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Yemi Cardoso has promised a good and comfortable life for Nigerians amidst its current economic setbacks.
Cardoso made the promise in a meeting on Friday with the Senate committee, reassuring them amidst the ongoing economic difficulties, expressing optimism that the nation will soon overcome its current hardships.
He emphasized the need for collective action to restore Nigeria's economic stability, acknowledging the challenges ahead. "It is a collaborative endeavor. There may be challenges along the way, but we are committed to restoring Nigeria to its former prosperity," stated the CBN governor.
He conveyed these sentiments during a meeting held with the Senate and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's economic team, addressing concerns regarding the nation’s struggling economy, widespread hunger, and the depreciation of the Naira.
Following an invitation from the Senate, the entire economic team under President Tinubu was summoned to appear, with key figures such as Minister of Finance Olawale Edun, Minister of State for Budget and Economic Planning Atiku Bagudu, CBN Governor Cardoso, Chairman of the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) Zacch Adedeji, and Comptroller General of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) Bashir Adewale Adeniyi in attendance.
The chairman of the Senate Committee on Banks, Insurance, and Other Financial Institutions, Senator Adetokunbo Abiru explained that last week’s scheduled meeting with the CBN Governor had to be postponed due to Cardoso’s prior commitments at the House of Representatives.
The meeting could be said to be productive but more information to come on its proceedings.
