The Lagos State Government said plans are underway to extend the Lagos Blue Rail Line to Ogun state, the Agbara axis.

The Director, Rail Transport, Lagos Metropolitan Area Transportation Authority, Olasukanmi Okusaga, disclosed this in Lagos while inspecting the ongoing construction of the Blue Line Phase 2 project on Thursday.

The project which is being handled by China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation, Okusaga said ongoing discussions with the Ogun State government revealed that they would be an extension of the Blue Line further to Agbara.

“The project, which was awarded in 2023, is expected to be completed in three years.

“It will include six stations in FESTAC, Alakija, Trade Fair, Volkswagen, LASU and Okokomaiko along with three bridges in Maza Maza, Satellite Town and LASU. This phase covers 14 kilometres.

“There are also plans to construct a depot in Okokomaiko,” Okusaga added.

Last December, the state government announced that the Blue Line Rail project’s second phase, connecting Mile 2 to Okoko, was set to be completed by 2027.

The Managing Director of Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority, Mrs Abimbola Akinajo, said this during a press conference commemorating the agency’s 20th anniversary.

She added that 400,000 passengers had patronised the rail system as of November 29, adding that there had not been a delay in service since the commercial operations started.
