The President of the Cameroon Football Association, Samuel Eto'o, has been sanctioned by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) for breaching ethics.
CAF announced on Thursday that Eto'o is facing charges related to alleged manipulation of football matches and ethics violations.
The governing body stated that there is not enough evidence to prove Eto'o's involvement in match-fixing, but he has been found to have violated principles of ethics and integrity by signing a brand ambassador contract with 1XBET in exchange for payment.
As a result, Eto'o has been fined $200,000 for the violation of CAF Statutes. This is not the first time Eto'o has been embroiled in controversy since becoming president of the Cameroon FA, as he was previously caught on tape attacking a cameraman at the FIFA World Cup in Qatar in 2022, and was also investigated by CAF for alleged improper misconduct in Cameroonian football.
