The 35th edition of the African Cup of Nations (AFCON) has been rescheduled from its initial June 2025 slot to December 2025, according to an announcement by the President of the host nation, Fouzi Lekja.
The decision to move AFCON to December came after the initial date raised concerns regarding a possible clash with FIFA's inaugural 32-team Club World Cup, which is slated for June 2025.
This marks the second alteration to the competition's schedule, raising questions about the possibility of further changes by CAF.
Past discussions between FIFA and CAF have hinted at a proposed timeframe for AFCON, spanning from mid-July to mid-August. This arrangement aims to accommodate players' commitments to their club teams during the competition.
Football enthusiasts eagerly await official updates from both FIFA and CAF to ascertain the commencement date of the AFCON 2025 tournament, as potential scheduling conflicts loom over the prestigious African football event.
