To commemorate Nigeria's 64th Independence Day, Apple Music compiled a list of the greatest Nigerian artistes, songs, and albums of all time.
Apple Music is commemorating Nigeria's Independence Day with Oshe Naija (meaning Thanks Nigeria in Yoruba), a month-long effort that will pay respect to many locations that have profoundly impacted the soundscape of Nigerian music and prepared it for a global audience.
As part of the festivities, Apple Music released a list of the top 10 most streamed Nigerian artistes of all time on the app.
The list is led by Grammy-winning artiste Burna Boy, who rose to global prominence in 2018 with his blockbuster hit track 'YE'.
The list also includes some of Nigeria's biggest and most successful artistes over the previous decade, with Wizkid coming in second, Davido third, Rema fifth, and Asake making the top five, thanks to his incredible run of songs.
Tems is the only female artiste on the list, and the Grammy winner rose to prominence when her intriguing music gained devoted global fans.
As part of Apple Music's celebration of Nigerian 64th Independence, the platform will release the Oshe Naija collection that will feature 8 exclusively curated playlists by Afro-fusion superstar Omah Lay (Port Harcourt), Hip-Hop force ODUMODUBLVCK (Abuja), maverick rapper Shallipopi (Benin City), Afro-R&B doyenne Qing Madi (Benin City), genre-bending singer-songwriter Seyi Vibez (Lagos), legendary Afro-pop singer-songwriter 2Baba (Jos), sure-fire rapper Jeriq (Enugu) and trailblazing up-coming singer Bloody Civilian (Abuja).
