POSTED ON November 8, 2023 •   Uncategorized      BY Segun Adewole
Nigerian music sensation and Grammy-winning artist, Damini Ebunoluwa Ogulu, popularly known as Burna Boy, has garnered an impressive total of seven nominations for the highly anticipated 2023 BET Hip-Hop Awards. This accolade firmly places him in the upper echelon of nominees, tying him with DJ Khaled as the third most-nominated artist. Burna Boy follows closely behind Drake, who received nine nominations, and Cardi B and 21 Savage, who lead the pack with an impressive 12 nods each. Burna Boy has been nominated in the coveted Artiste of the Year category at the BET Hip-Hop Awards. This groundbreaking nomination underscores his global influence and the undeniable impact of Afrobeat on the international music scene. In the Artiste of the Year category, Burna Boy will compete with renowned artists such as Kendrick Lamar, J.Cole, 21 Savage, Drake, Cardi B, and more. Among his seven nominations, Burna Boy is recognized in the following categories: Song of the Year for "Sittin’ On Top Of The World" featuring 21 Savage, Best Hip-Hop Video for the same track, Best Collaboration for the aforementioned song, Best Live Performer, Lyricist of the Year, and Hustler of the Year. Additionally, the 2023 BET Hip-Hop Awards have showcased the diversity of talent from the African continent. In the Best International Flow category, Ghana's Black Sherif, Zambia's Sampa The Great, and South African rappers K.O and AKA have earned nominations. Notably, this year marks the first time since the category's inception in 2019 that no Nigerian rapper has been nominated. The 2023 BET Hip-Hop Awards are scheduled to be taped in Atlanta on Tuesday, October 3rd, and will subsequently premiere on BET one week later, on Tuesday, October 10th, at 9 p.m. ET/PT. This annual event promises to celebrate the best in hip-hop music and culture, bringing together the industry's brightest talents for a night of recognition and entertainment.
