15 airports will now bear new names that were approved by outgoing President Muhammadu Buhari in honor of notable Nigerians.
Odutayo Oluseyi, the Ministry of Aviation's Head of Press and Public Affairs, made this information available to the media on Sunday.
The statement lists the airports as being named after Akure International Airport named after Olumuyiwa Bernard Aliu; Benin International Airport now known as Oba Akinzua ii; Dutse International Airport renamed Muhammed Nuhu Sanusi; Ebonyi International Airport Okadigbo now known as Chuba Wilberforce; and Gombe International Airport renamed Brigadier Zakari Maimalari.
Also mentioned are the international airports at Ibadan (General Samuel Ladoke Akintola), Ilorin (General Tunde Abdullahi Idiagbon), Kaduna (Gen. Hassan Usman Katsina), and Maiduguri (President Muhammadu Buhari).
Others include the renaming of the airports at Makurdi International (after Joseph Sarwuan Tarka), Minna International (after Mall. Abubakar Imam), Nasarrawa International (after Sheikh Usman Danfodio), Osubi International (after Alfred Diete Spiff), Port Harcourt International (after Obafemi Jeremiah Awolowo), and Yola International (after Lamido Aliyu Mustapha).
