President Bola Tinubu has given the go-ahead for the continuation of complimentary train journeys on the Abuja Rail Mass Transit, also known as the Metro Rail, for the next six months, until the end of the year.
This decision was made during his speech at the launch of the commencement of operations of the Abuja metro rail in Abuja on Wednesday.
Recall that the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, had previously declared a two-month period of free train rides to alleviate the commuting challenges faced by residents of the FCT.
The President made an appeal for the extension in order to provide hope to the residents of the FCT and give them a reason to rejoice.
"I heard you mention two months of free transportation, but I urge you to extend it until the end of the year. By not charging today, it will give people hope and a cause for celebration," stated Tinubu.
