Spain's Road to the Final
There were some issues throughout Spain's path to the championship.
It all started in September of 2022, when 15 players signed an open letter criticizing manager Jorge Vilda and the national team's working circumstances.
This transpired after Irene Paredes had private discussions with the Federation regarding Vilda. Although the odds were stacked against them, the team prevailed and advanced to the championship game with wins over Switzerland, the Netherlands, and Sweden.
Spain's First-Ever World Cup Triumph
Winning the Women's World Cup as Spain is a monumental achievement for the country. The victory is a huge step forward for the Spanish women's football team, who had never advanced past the Round of 16 before.
It was already a historic achievement for Spain to reach the final after overcoming enormous obstacles, so the team's triumph in the championship game warranted even more rejoicing.
