Seun Kuti, an Afrobeat artist, was granted bail on Tuesday by the Chief Magistrate Court in Yaba, Lagos State.
The court further mandated that police complete their inquiry into the alleged attack on the police officer within 48 hours.
S. A. Adebese, the police prosecutor, had asked the court to detain the defendant for 21 days.
The Directorate of Public Prosecutions (DPP) would be able to produce legal advice within three weeks, according to the counsel.
Femi Falana, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) and defense attorney, however, argued against the plea in his argument.
Falana pleaded with the judge not to detain his client, saying that he was unaware of an application to that effect.
The renowned Fela Kuti's son was detained for assaulting a police officer when his car was halted on the Third Mainland Bridge.
