Senator Godswill Akpabio has been chosen as the 10th Senate's president.
Former senator and minority leader Akpabio received 63 votes to defeat the former governor of Zamfara Yari, who received 46.
Prior to the start of the 10th National Assembly, the electorate of parliamentarians had started voting on the Nigerian Senate floor.
After reviewing Senator Godswill Akpabio's history, Senator Ali Ndume proposed the former Akwa Ibom governor.
Senator Olamilekan Solomon Yayi of Ogun State seconded Akpabio's candidacy.
Senator Ishaku Abbo also proposed Senator Abdul Aziz Yari as candidate for Senate President.
