The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has achieved a commendable performance rating in a recent assessment conducted by the Bureau of Public Service Reforms (BPSR).
The BPSR, a federal government agency tasked with promoting efficiency and transparency within public institutions, deployed its Self-Assessment Tool (SAT) to evaluate JAMB's operations.
JAMB scored 70%, earning the designation of a "SILVER LEVEL Organization that EXCEEDS EXPECTATION." This indicates JAMB consistently surpasses expectations in its core responsibilities, delivering high-quality work that meets its primary goals.
The BPSR Director-General, Dasuki I. Arabi, commended JAMB's performance during the presentation of the assessment summary report.
He highlighted that the process was conducted free from internal or external bias.
The BPSR deployed the SAT tool at JAMB to identify the agency's strengths and weaknesses, aiming to optimize performance and ensure JAMB remains "fit for purpose."
While acknowledging JAMB's achievements, the BPSR did offer some recommendations for further improvement. These included:
- Reconstituting the JAMB Governing Board
- Developing a financial manual and accounting system compliant with regulations
- Implementing a policy to attract resources from development partners for strategic objectives
- Strengthening internal controls through risk assessment strategies
- Establishing an asset management policy for efficient maintenance and replacement of assets
- Leveraging modern technology and infrastructure for enhanced productivity
- Implementing a comprehensive performance management plan
JAMB Registrar, Professor Ishaq Oloyede, expressed appreciation for the BPSR's assessment and the ongoing public service reforms.
He acknowledged the tool's effectiveness in revealing JAMB's existing competencies and strengths, which the agency can build upon to achieve even greater success.
Professor Oloyede also expressed optimism for Nigeria's future, believing the current challenges are temporary and will be overcome by the government's ongoing initiatives.
This successful assessment reflects JAMB's commitment to delivering efficient and reliable services for Nigerian students seeking higher education.
With the BPSR's recommendations for further improvement in mind, JAMB appears well-positioned to continue exceeding expectations in the years to come.
