Lothar Matthaus, the German football legend and former World Cup winner, has predicted that Nigerian striker Victor Boniface will beat English star Harry Kane to the Bundesliga top scorer award this season.
According to Matthaus,
Boniface will compete with Kane for the Bundesliga scoring title this year. Two months back, Bayer Leverkusen signed Victor Boniface from Royale Union Saint-Gilloise for roughly €20m. In three total appearances for the club, he has scored three goals. On August 26th, 2023, he scored a brace in a 3-0 win over Borussia Monchengladbach.

Meanwhile, Bayern Munich's Harry Kane has scored three goals in two games for the league's top team. He scored twice in his home Bundesliga debut for Bayern Munich as the champions continued their victorious start to the season.
Why is Boniface a threat to Kane?
Nigerian-born forward Victor Boniface, 22, plays for Bayer Leverkusen in Germany's Bundesliga. He got his start with a Nigerian youth club called Real Sapphire before making the 2019 move to Bodø/Glimt. With Bodø/Glimt, Boniface won
the 2020 and 2021 Eliteserien titles and scored 13 goals in 48 games. While playing for Union SG in Belgium in 2022, he scored nine times in 37 league games and six times in 10 Europa League games, making him the competition's joint best scorer.
With six goals in ten games in the 2022–23 UEFA Europa League season, he tied for the league's top scorer with Marcus Rashford of Manchester United. In addition,
he was selected to the Europa League Team of the Season.
The striker joined German club Bayer Leverkusen in June 2023, and in just two games he has scored twice in the Bundesliga. He has also competed for Nigeria at the Under-20 level on the international stage.
Kane's goal-scoring ability is legendary, as he consistently leads the league in goals scored. However, Boniface's numbers and potential with a quality, competitive team like Leverkusen make him a danger to Kane for the league's top scorer award at the season's finish. Additionally, Boniface's speed, height, and goal-scoring prowess make him a dangerous opponent for any defense.
