An investigation panel concluded on Monday that there was no proof that popular crossdresser Idris Okuneye nicknamed Bobrisky slept outside the prison throughout his six-month sentence.
Uju Agomoh, the Executive Director and Founder of Prisoners' Rehabilitation and Welfare Action said this while reading the panel's phase one report at the Ministry of Interior.
Bobrisky was released from prison on August 5, after being convicted to six months on April 12 for naira mutilation.
VeryDarkMan, a popular activist, accused Bobrisky of serving his imprisonment sentence in a lodge rather than the Kirikiri prison because of the influence of a godfather.
VeryDarkMan also published an audio recording of Bobrisky stating that he bribed Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) officers with N15 million to settle his money laundering allegations.
Following this disclosure, the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, launched an investigation.
On September 30, Tunji-Ojo formed an investigating commission chaired by Magdalena Ajani, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Interior, to investigate 'Alleged Corruption & Other Violations Against the Nigerian Correctional Service'.
However, Agomoh said the panel “did not find any evidence thus far that suggested that Mr Okuneye slept outside the custodial centre during the period of his imprisonment, which was from 12th April 2024 to the 5th August 2024, which is a six-month correctional sentence with the usual remission applicable”.
