Grammy-winning Nigerian singer-songwriter Temilade Openiyi, popularly known as Tems, is set to make history at the 2024 Billboard Women in Music event.
The 'Essence' singer has been given the Breakthrough Award Honoree at this year's Women In Music Awards, becoming the first Nigerian to receive this honor.
On Wednesday, Billboard announced the honorees of the 2024 Women in Music Awards.
Other recipients include Kylie Minogue (Icon Award Honoree), Ice Spice (Hitmaker Award Honoree), Victoria Monét (Rising Star Award Honoree), and Young Miko (Impact Award Honoree).
According to Billboard, presenters, performers, and additional honorees will be announced in the following weeks.
The 2024 Billboard Women in Music Event will be held at the YouTube Theater in Inglewood, California, on March 6, 2024.
Tems rose to prominence after being featured on Wizkid's 2020 single "Essence," which peaked at number 9 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart following the release of the remix version with Justin Bieber.
The song earned her a Grammy Award nomination. That same year, she was featured on the song "Fountains" by Drake.
On February 5, 2023, Tems won a Best Melodic Rap Performance Grammy for her collaboration on "Wait For U" with Future and Drake.
That same month, she won the Female MVP award at the Soundcity MVP Awards held at the Eko Convention Centre in Lagos.
