KANO, Nigeria- Aminu Babba Dan’Agundi, the Senior Counsel to the 15th Emir of Kano, Aminu Ado Bayero, has pledged to contest the recent ruling by the Court of Appeal that favored the 16th Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II.
Dan’Agundi, who also carries the traditional title of Sarkin Dawaki Babba of Kano Emirate, declared his intention to escalate the matter to the Supreme Court during a press briefing at the Nassarawa Mini Palace.
The Court of Appeal had previously determined that the Federal High Court did not have the jurisdiction to adjudicate Dan’Agundi’s case, which aimed to uphold his fundamental human rights amid the emirship dispute.
While the lead judgment recommended that the case be reassigned to the Kano State Chief Judge, two other judges disagreed, leading to the dismissal of the appeal.
Nevertheless, Dan’Agundi characterized the judgment as incomplete, asserting, “The emirship crisis has only just begun; no one can claim victory yet because we are appealing this ruling at the highest court.”
The senior counsel confirmed that he has directed his legal team to secure a certified true copy of the judgment as part of the preparations for the Supreme Court appeal.
“Once an appeal is filed with the Supreme Court, the decision of a lower court is put on hold until the case is completely resolved,” he stated.
He further stressed, “Whatever the Supreme Court decides will be final, and we submit to the will of Allah. Until then, no one should celebrate a victory.”
Dan’Agundi called on the residents of Kano to uphold peace and respect the rule of law as the legal proceedings continue.
