Bauchi, Nigeria - The Governing Council of Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University in Bauchi State has terminated the employment of Dr. Usman Aliyu.
The Director of Information and Public Relations at the university, Zailani Bappa, revealed this information during an interview in Bauchi on Thursday.
He noted that the decision to dismiss the lecturer was made during the university's 96th regular meeting on April 11, 2025, after Dr. Aliyu was found guilty of sexually harassing a married postgraduate student at the institution.
The affected student is from the Department of Chemical Engineering within the Faculty of Engineering and Engineering Technology.
Bappa confirmed, “Yes, it’s accurate; the lecturer was deemed guilty of the offense by the Senior Staff Disciplinary Committee at the university. His dismissal aligns with chapter 3, item f, i, (o) of the Senior Staff Conditions of Service.
The council has thus approved his immediate dismissal from the university's service.
Consequently, he has been instructed to return all university property currently in his possession to his Head of Department, along with his identification card to the Chief Security Officer of the university.”
