Banky W, Obanikoro React As Tribunal Sacks Attah

POSTED ON November 8, 2023 •   Uncategorized      BY Segun Adewole
The Lagos State National and State House of Assembly Election Petition tribunal, convened in Ikeja, Lagos State, has rendered a verdict annulling the election of Thaddeus Attah, a Labour Party (LP) lawmaker, who had been serving as the representative of the Eti Osa Federal Constituency of Lagos State since February 25, 2023. According to reports, the tribunal has issued a directive to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to organize a supplementary election within 90 days. This supplementary vote will encompass the 32 polling units situated within the Eti-Osa constituency. Moreover, the tribunal has mandated INEC to revoke the return certificate previously awarded to Attah and oversee fresh elections in areas where voting did not transpire on the initial election date of February 25. Reacting to the news via his Instagram page, the All Progressives Congress candidate in the election, Ibrahim Obanikoro, wrote on his story; “The Feb 25 election has just been rightly declared inconclusive and supplementary elections have been ordered by the court. INEC has been ordered to withdraw the return certificate and conduct elections in areas where it didn’t hold on Election Day.” Singer and Peoples Democratic Party candidate in the same election, Olubankole Wellington aka Banky W, also reacted to the ruling. “It is possible. Still." he wrote No reaction has been issued by Attah about the ruling on the election where he polled 24,075 votes, while the Peoples Democratic Party’s Banky W came second with 18,666 votes. Babajide Obanikoro of the All Progressives Congress (APC) was declared third with 16,901 votes. The ruling comes as a significant turn of events in the political landscape of Eti Osa, setting the stage for a renewed democratic process and raising questions about the integrity of the initial election. The forthcoming supplementary election will provide an opportunity for voters to have their voices heard and ensure that the constituents of Eti Osa are accurately represented in the State and National House of Assembly.
