Bangladesh Deadly Train Collision Claims Several Lives

A tragic train collision near the Bangladeshi capital, Dhaka, has claimed the lives of at least 15 people and left many others injured, according to local fire officials.

The incident happened in the central district of Kishoreganj, specifically in Bhairab. Following the crash, a collective effort involving both rescue teams and local residents was initiated to extricate passengers from the mangled train cars. Fire official Mosharraf Hossain reported the recovery of 15 bodies, emphasizing that the casualty count could rise as the situation unfolds. "Our people are working there. It's a chaotic situation," he conveyed to The Associated Press. The collision took place when a cargo train, en route to Chattogram, struck the last two coaches of the Dhaka-bound Egarosindur Godhuli Express passenger train. The wreckage caused by the collision has raised concerns about individuals potentially trapped inside the train cars. In the aftermath of the incident, train services to other parts of the country have been suspended. Investigations into the cause of the crash are underway, though it remains unclear at this stage. Train accidents are not uncommon in Bangladesh, with many attributing them to factors such as unregulated railway crossings, inadequate signalling, and subpar track conditions.
