The Director General of the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control, Moji Adeyeye, on Wednesday has reiterated that the prohibition on the sale and consumption of sachet alcoholic beverages in Nigeria is still in effect.

She emphasized that the ban remains in place until the ministers provide a response
She said “following a meeting last week. The outcome of the meeting was that the ministers should draft a memo to the Speaker of the House of Representatives, and the discussion will continue after the House members' recess in July.
The deputy spokesman for the House of Representatives, Philip Agbese, recently announced that the House and NAFDAC have agreed to temporarily lift the ban on sachet alcoholic beverages.
She Said decision was reached after a meeting between the House Committee and NAFDAC officials, with the understanding that the ban will be lifted once the economy fully recovers.
She noted that NAFDAC had previously enforced a ban on the importation, manufacture, distribution, sale, and use of alcoholic beverages in sachets, PET, and glass bottles of 200ml and below starting from February 1, 2024.
The decision was based on the recommendation of a high-powered committee comprising the Federal Ministry of Health, NAFDAC, Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission, and the industry.
