Atiku Abubakar, the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), and Peter Obi, the Labour Party counterpart, have stated that they will appeal the judgment of the Tribunal at the Supreme Court.
The Presidential Elections Petitions Tribunal declared Bola Tinubu as the duly elected president of Nigeria, dismissing the petitions of the opposition candidates, including Atiku and Obi. The Labour Party criticised the judgment, stating that it did not reflect the desires of the people and that justice was not served. The National Publicity Secretary of the Party, Obiora Ifoh, emphasised their determination to continue pursuing the case until the people's will is upheld. Atiku's lead lawyer, Chris Uche, confirmed that they would be appealing the decision at the Supreme Court, indicating their commitment to pursuing legal avenues to challenge the judgment. The Supreme Court is the final court in Nigeria for presidential election disputes, and judgement here would be final. Speaking through his team of lawyers led by Chief Chris Uche, SAN, the PDP candidate, said he only got a judgement from the court and not justice. He said, via Vanguard: “We have the instruction of our client to go to the Supreme Court. So, we have asked for the records. We have asked for the judgement. We are going to apply for the transmission of the records because we have a very limited time to push this. “So, the struggle continues and as it is said, it is not over until it is over.”
