Nigerian football sensation Asisat Oshoala is poised to make history by securing her sixth CAF Women’s Player of the Year award. Oshoala, a star player for Barcelona Femeni, has once again found herself on the final shortlist for the prestigious accolade, a testament to her consistent excellence on the pitch.
The 27-year-old already etched her name in the record books by becoming the first woman to clinch the CAF Women’s Player of the Year award for a fifth time in 2022. Her remarkable contributions were pivotal in Barcelona Femeni's UEFA Women’s Champions League triumph during the previous season.
Facing stiff competition, Oshoala is up against South Africa’s Thembi Klagtlana and Zambia’s Barbara Banda, both accomplished players in their own right. Klagtlana, a member of the American side Racing Louisville Football Club, previously secured the award in 2018.
The winner of this prestigious title will be unveiled at the highly anticipated CAF Awards Gala scheduled for Monday, December 11, 2023, at the Palais des Congrès, Movenpick, in Marrakech, Morocco. As Oshoala vies for an unprecedented sixth triumph, football enthusiasts eagerly await the culmination of the ceremony, which promises to celebrate and honor outstanding achievements in women's football across the African continent.
