Apple To Update Iphone 12 In France Amid Electromagnetic Radiation Concerns

POSTED ON November 8, 2023 •   GLOBAL NEWS      BY Segun Adewole
In response to regulatory concerns over electromagnetic radiation emitted by the iPhone 12, Apple has announced plans to update the device in France. The decision comes after French authorities ordered a temporary halt to the sale of the iPhone 12, citing emissions exceeding permissible levels. The iPhone 12, launched in 2020, faced scrutiny from French regulators, who found that it emitted higher levels of electromagnetic waves than what the country's standards allowed. To address these concerns, Apple has pledged to implement an update for the iPhone 12 in the coming days. France's digital minister, Jean-Noel Barrot, conveyed the company's commitment to addressing the issue, stating, "Apple has assured me that it will implement an update for the iPhone 12 in the next few days." Both Apple and Barrot emphasized that the electromagnetic radiation emitted by the device posed no threat to public health. Apple clarified that the situation was a result of a specific testing protocol employed by French regulators and not indicative of any safety concerns. The tech giant assured that the iPhone 12 complied with emissions regulations worldwide. Apple added, "We will issue a software update for users in France to accommodate the protocol used by French regulators." Barrot had given Apple a two-week window to release the update when the halt on iPhone 12 sales was first imposed on Tuesday. The French agency responsible for testing, the ANFR, will promptly evaluate the update, and based on their assessment, the digital minister will decide whether to lift the sales ban. It's worth noting that the World Health Organization has previously conducted studies on mobile phone use and electromagnetic radiation, stating that "no adverse health effects have been established as being caused by mobile phone use." As such, the concerns raised by French authorities appear to center on compliance with specific national standards rather than broader health risks.
