A group of opposition presidential candidates who participated in the 2023 election have appealed to President Bola Tinubu to consider them for appointment in his government of unity.
The candidates, who are members of the Forum of Concerned Presidential Candidates, made the appeal when they paid a courtesy visit to the National Chairman of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), Dr Abdullahi Ganduje, at the party secretariat in Abuja on Thursday.
The delegation was led by the presidential candidate of the Action Peoples Party (APP), Charles Nnadi, and included the presidential candidate of the National Rescue Movement (NRM), Felix Osakwe, the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) flag bearer, Prof Peter Umeadi, and the Action Democratic Party (ADP) vice presidential candidate, Dr Odey Udo.
In his speech, Osakwe said that the candidates are willing to offer their services to Tinubu in the spirit of inclusive politics.
He also disclosed that they are not known to practice politics with bitterness, as evident by their refusal to join the bandwagon of candidates dragging President Tinubu to the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal in the wake of the poll result.
“We are willing to offer our services to this country,” Osakwe said. “We have a demand and it is for the party. That a slot in the campaign council for the Governorship elections should be made available to us. We believe that our job is much more wanted now as we prepare to go into the polls in the three states in November.”
Ganduje, who applauded the team for supporting the president’s ideology of inclusive politics and government of national unity, assured them that he would present their demand to the president.
It remains to be seen whether Tinubu will heed the call of the opposition presidential candidates. However, their appeal is a sign that they are willing to work with the new government in the interest of national unity.
