In the hotly contested Yobe South senatorial polls, Senator Ibrahim Mohammed Bomai has been named the winner by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
Halilu Mazagane of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), who received 68,885 votes, was defeated by Bomai of the All Progressives Congress (APC), who received 69,596 votes.
Others include Maisambo Barde of the YPP, who received 448 votes, Jauro Ishaku of the LP, who received 471 votes, Isa Musa of the NNPP, who received 3,277 votes, and Yerima Adamu of the ADC, who received 652 votes.
Abacha Meleni, the INEC returning officer, announced the results at the FCE Potiskum collation center, saying: "I, Abacha Meleni, Returning Officer for the 2023 Yobe South Senatorial District Election, held on 15th of April, 2023, [declares] that Bomai Ibrahim Mohammed of the APC, having satisfied the requirements of the law, is hereby declared the winner and is returned elected."
Senator-elect Bomai responded by expressing gratitude to the electorate and his supporters for their tenacity and affection.
