Governors affiliated with the ruling All Progressives Congress have unanimously backed President Bola Tinubu as the party’s consensus candidate for the upcoming 2027 presidential election.
Imo State governor, Hope Uzodimma, who also chairs the Progressive Governors Forum, announced this endorsement from the 22 governors.
The announcement occurred on Thursday during the APC National Summit held at the Presidential Villa’s State House Banquet Hall in Abuja, themed ‘Renewed Hope Agenda: The Journey So Far.’ Governor Uzodimma proposed the motion to adopt Tinubu as the party's sole candidate for the 2027 election, with the motion being seconded by Uba Sani, the governor of Kaduna State and PGF Vice-Chairman.
The motion was then subjected to a voice vote, receiving unanimous support from attendees, including Vice President Kashim Shettima, Senate President Godswill Akpabio, members of the National Assembly from the APC, as well as both current and former governors, together with APC members from all 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory.
