The Anambra State Joint Security Force has recovered heavy ammunition tools during a terrorist raid in Achalla, the headquarters of Awka North Local Government Area.
During the raid, the police officers recovered five exotic vehicles previously stolen at gunpoint, along with over 300 rounds of machine guns and 34 rounds of 7.62mm AK-47 rifles.
The terrorist raid which took place on Monday, February 19, 2024, had been ordered by the State Commissioner of Police, Aderemi Adeoye, resulting in the dismantling of an insurgent camp.
The operation was a response to recent disruptions caused by the insurgents, including the forced closure of Achalla Market, compelling traders to observe a sit-at-home order.
The spokesperson for the security forces, DSP Tochukwu Ikenga confirmed the success of the operation, stating that all operatives returned safely to their base. He also announced that the Commissioner of Police had directed the owners of the recovered vehicles to come forward with proof of ownership to reclaim their vehicles.
Furthermore, a manhunt has been launched to apprehend the fleeing insurgents, with plans to extend the search to hospitals and clinics to ensure they are brought to justice after receiving necessary medical treatment.
This operation comes on the heels of recent arrests made by the Anambra State Police Command, which nabbed about 30 suspects involved in various criminal activities, including kidnapping, armed robbery, cultism, and other forms of lawlessness plaguing the state.
In a related development, the Command recently recovered two AK-47 rifles that were stolen from police formations. One of the rifles was stolen from the Zone 13 Headquarters, Ukpo, during an attack by unknown gunmen in 2021, while the second rifle was stolen from the Area Command Headquarters, Ogidi, Idemili Local Government Area, early last year during an insurgent attack.
