ANAMBRA, Nigeria - In preparation for the Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) for the Anambra State governorship election, 31,690 Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) remain unclaimed.
This information comes from data released by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in 2023, which indicated that 2,624,764 PVCs have already been collected in the state.
The CVR is a regular electoral process that allows eligible citizens who haven't registered to do so, and enables registered voters to update or transfer their information if needed.
This initiative is anticipated to lead to a significant rise in the number of registered voters in the state, currently recorded at 2,656,437.
INEC Chairman, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, has recently confirmed that the commission is concluding its preparations for the CVR, aiming for the Anambra State governorship election scheduled for November 8, 2025.
Yakubu emphasized the need to initiate the registration process promptly and promised that more details would be shared soon. With numerous PVCs still uncollected and many citizens expected to register during the CVR, there may be a considerable increase in the voter population before election day.
Recently, INEC disclosed the final list of candidates for the election and announced the official start of campaign activities.
In a statement from the National Commissioner and Chairman of the Information and Voter Education Committee, Sam Olumekun, it was noted that this announcement followed the completion of candidate substitutions and the verification of information submitted by political parties.
Sixteen political parties met the May 12, 2025, submission deadline and will take part in the upcoming election on November 8.
