ONDO, Nigeria - To commemorate his inauguration, Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa of Ondo State has granted pardons to 43 inmates from various correctional facilities within the state.
This action was taken on Monday, February 24, 2025, as part of initiatives aimed at enhancing reformative justice in the region. Of those pardoned, eight inmates were released immediately.
Furthermore, 15 death row inmates had their sentences commuted to prison terms, while the other 20 saw adjustments to their jail terms.
Aiyedatiwa’s decision was based on recommendations from the Advisory Council on the Prerogative of Mercy, headed by Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Kayode Ajulo.
This move is in line with his strategy to tackle challenges within the justice system and facilitate the reintegration of inmates into the community.
