The pan-Yoruba socio-political group, Afenifere, has announced its belief that Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s (LP) presidential candidate, was the true winner of the February 25th presidential election, not the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu. The group has also stated that it endorses the decision of the LP flag bearer to challenge the election result.
Afenifere made the announcement via a communique issued after its Special General Meeting at Isanya-Ogbo, Ogun State, on Tuesday. The communique, which was signed by its National Leader and Secretary-General, Pa Ayo Adebanjo and Chief Sola Ebiseni, respectively, categorically stated that they never sent any congratulatory message to any candidate.
The group further stated that it believes that the election was rigged in favor of the APC candidate, and that there were multiple instances of violence and voter intimidation during the election. Afenifere called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to investigate these claims and conduct a thorough review of the election process.
According to the group, the Labour Party’s (LP) Presidential candidate’s decision to challenge the election result was the right thing to do, and they fully support him in his efforts to ensure that the will of the people is upheld.
