The Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu has apologised to Nigerians for his previous statement about keeping freezers on for days due to low electricity tariffs.
"We regret any offensive remarks we may have made," said Adelabu, during an appearance on Channels Television's Politics Today on Thursday.
Adelabu had received criticism from many Nigerians over the past week for his remarks, which were deemed offensive.
He had previously stated to journalists in Abuja on April 4, 2024, that Nigerians lack the culture of managing electricity consumption due to the "cheap" power supply.
He also defended the decision by the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) to order an increase in electricity tariffs, stating that it was within NERC's legal authority to review tariffs twice a year, as per the Electricity Act 2023.
