No fewer than 199,371 people have been vaccinated against cholera in Yola-North Local Government Area of Adamawa State.
The development became pertinent as the state received an additional 469,374 doses of the cholera vaccine, which will be administered to residents of Yola-South LGA and parts of Yola-North LGA.
The Director of Public Health and Incidence Manager for Cholera, Mr. Isaac Kadala, who disclosed this, added that the vaccination campaign was conducted in eight affected wards, namely Ajiya, Alkalawa, Godobawa, Yelwa, Runde, Limawa, Jambutu, and Karewa.
He added that the number of cholera cases in the state had significantly decreased due to the government’s efforts and partnerships with relevant agencies.
He stated, “We recorded about 696 cases, 18 deaths, with 26 currently on admission receiving treatment, and 652 treated and discharged."
Kadala urged the public to maintain personal, environmental, and food hygiene to further reduce the spread of cholera.
“People should avoid drinking contaminated water, shun open defecation, and thoroughly wash fruits before eating,” he advised.
He noted that plans were underway to extend the exercise to other parts of the state.
